These turtles must be going through an identity crisis.
They are playing leapfrog!
Return of the yellow shirt! This statue was really hot from sitting in the sun all day, so I was glad those shorts weren’t made of nylon.
I did some follow up with my fellow keepers on your inquiries about riding tortoises. A Galapagos Tortoise could definitely carry a person on it’s back. Some of the larger ones could probably carry three or four people (seating would probably be the only problem). Our male was getting blood drawn once, and two male keepers couldn’t hold a back leg extended (on their behalf, there really are no good hand holds on a tortoise’s leg).
